Description

Improper payments from the federal government have risen steadily since 2003, when the Improper Payment Information Act was implemented. In 2017, the total was staggering – nearly $1.4 trillion wrongly disbursed. Learn what agencies are doing to turn this trend around.

Learning Objective:

  • Explore obstacles to payment integrity caused by legislation, culture and technology. Learn about the cross-agency working group established to address requirements and guidelines associated with improper payments and how the group’s collaboration is helping to finetune the rules through research, engagement, documentation and communication. Examine the effectiveness of preventive/proactive approaches versus "chasing" improper payments.
