M113 - M113: Lessons Learned from Real-life Frauds (FOS: AUDG)

Jul 23, 2018 2:05pm ‐ Jul 23, 2018 3:20pm

Expiration Date: Aug 15, 2019

This session will feature presentations of frauds committed by state and local governments. Panelists will also discuss how the perpetrators circumvented controls or took advantage of the absence of controls.

Lessons learned from the perspective of how internal controls could have prevented/detected/the fraud – but more visuals for attendees to understand what was done by the fraudster to circumvent the controls that were in place and how other controls might have prevented the fraud or discovered it sooner. (Often internal control is presented in a more textbook manner – without real life examples – using real fraud scenarios will help reinforce how a fraudster manipulated controls and what could have caught or prevented the fraud.)
