Salim Mawani is a member of Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). As Senior Advisor to the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Mawani is responsible for providing expert financial management advice, strategic planning and operations support, organizational effectiveness, FMCSA’s policies, and special projects related to the agency’s financial management. Mr. Mawani has over 25 years of experience serving both private and public sector organizations. Prior to joining the FMCSA, Mr. Mawani served as the Senior Manager at the Smithsonian Institution leading the Financial Policies and Procedures Division. Mr. Mawani also has prior experience as Senior Manager with EY and KPMG serving numerous federal governmental agencies. His other experiences include serving as Vice President with AuditWatch and Manager with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Mr. Mawani graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS degree in accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Washington DC Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA). During his more than 20 years with the AGA DC Chapter, he has served in variety of roles including Education Director and assisting with the Early Careers Committee. Mr. Mawani’s hobbies include bicycling, vacationing in and around national parks, and watching professional and collegiate football, either from the stands or his comfy couch.
