Sarah Lyberg CGFM

Since 2017, Sarah Lyberg has served as the CFO for Mecklenburg County—the largest county in North Carolina with a $1.9 Billion operating budget and $1.6 Billion Capital Budget. The Department serves as a strategic partner in support of all County missions, with responsibility for all financial services, including general accounting, investments, treasury functions, grants, financial reporting, the capital program, and procurement. Major initiatives include supporting the County’s Racial Equity and Inclusion priorities and affordable housing. Prior to joining the County, she served 14 years in the Federal Government, with three years in the Department of Housing and Urban Development where she was the Assistant Chief Financial Officer for Budget, and served as acting Deputy Chief Financial Officer. She spent over a decade in the Office of Management and Budget, and was lead for the Federal credit portfolio. Before joining government, she was a senior risk analyst in the financial services industry. Sarah has a Masters in Public Policy from the Ford School at the University of Michigan, and earned her CGFM in 2016. She lives in Charlotte.
