Alec Alexander

Deputy Admin. & Director, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

Alec Alexander serves as Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Program Integrity. He supports the Administrator and all components in CMS in the creation, implementation, and management of federal policy aimed at identifying program vulnerabilities, preventing fraud, waste, and abuse, and ensuring the integrity of all Medicare and Medicaid spending. Alec also oversees all CMS interactions and collaborations with key stakeholders relating to program integrity including the US DOJ, DHHS, OIG, state law enforcement agencies, other federal entities, and all other components of CMS.

Prior to joining CMS in December of 2017, Alec was in private law practice representing a wide range of providers in administrative, civil, and criminal matters. Before that, Alec worked as a healthcare executive in a large hospital system and was responsible for numerous functions including Chief Compliance Officer. From 2002 and 2010, Alec served as an Assistant United States Attorney handling a wide variety of healthcare fraud investigations and prosecutions.
