George Scott became the Deputy Inspector General for the NASA in June 2018. Mr. Scott assists the Inspector General in providing executive direction to senior OIG leadership, overseeing audits and investigations, and is responsible for day-to-day management of operations.

Prior to joining NASA OIG, Mr. Scott had over 30 years of experience at the Government Accountability Office (GAO), including serving as the Managing Director of GAO’s Homeland Security and Justice Team. In this role, Mr. Scott managed GAO’s work on a broad range of homeland security and justice programs and issues. Prior to becoming Managing Director, Mr. Scott directed GAO’s reviews of federal education programs. This included audits of school reform initiatives, Indian education, charter schools, STEM education programs, and federal student aid programs. 

Early in his GAO career, Mr. Scott led a body of work on employee benefit plans, including reviews of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, federal oversight of private pension plans, and the federal Thrift Savings Plan. Mr. Scott's work resulted in important legislative and regulatory changes as well as improved accountability for federal programs and funds. 

Mr. Scott is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
