Sim Segal is president and founder of SimErgy Consulting, a firm specializing exclusively in enterprise risk management (ERM). Headquartered in Manhattan, SimErgy provides ERM consulting services and executive training on ERM to organizations in all sector.

Segal is also the founder and director of the M.S. in ERM program at Columbia University, the #1 such program globally.

Segal is a globally-recognized ERM thought leader and pioneer, primarily for developing value-based ERM – an advanced yet practical approach synthesizing ERM and value-based management.

Segal is author of Corporate Value of Enterprise Risk Management, published by Wiley, which is required reading on the syllabi of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and leading universities around the world.

Segal has authored numerous articles in publications such as Forbes, American Banker, and Corporate Finance Review and has been quoted in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Global Finance, and National Underwriter. Segal is a frequently-invited speaker to ERM conferences and events and has made over 190 ERM-related presentations globally. He has also conducted several ERM research studies.

Segal has extensive service on industry committees and has previously served as vice president on the board of directors of the SOA and as the inaugural chairman of the SOA risk committee.

Prior to SimErgy, Segal led ERM consulting practices at Deloitte Consulting, Aon, and Watson Wyatt (now part of Willis Towers Watson). Prior to his consulting experience, Segal was an officer at MetLife, where he was a key player in the first successful adoption of economic capital by a U.S. insurer, assisting in its integration into key company processes, such as strategic planning, capital management, financial reporting, and pricing. Segal also led one of the internal teams to convert MetLife into a stock company.

Segal graduated summa cum laude from Wayne State University, with a B.A. in mathematics. He is a Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA). Segal was one of 40 global ERM experts awarded the CERA for “thought leadership and significant contributions to advance the practice of ERM.”
