Dr. Anna Maria Calcagno serves as the Director of the Office of Program Performance, Analysis, and Evaluation (OPPAE) within the Office of Performance, Planning, and the Chief Financial Officer at the Small Business Administration (SBA). In this role, Dr. Calcagno provides strategic direction and policy oversight for SBA’s strategic planning, performance management, program evaluation, enterprise risk management, fraud risk management, audit management, program and project management, and economic and regulatory impact analysis functions. Before joining the SBA, she served as the first Strategy, Policy, and Program Analysis Division Director within FEMA’s Mission Support Executive Office. Over her six-year tenure at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Dr. Calcagno served as a pioneer in evidence-based decision making by building the Office of Program Planning, Analysis, and Evaluation (OPAE) at the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) and championing continuous process improvement through technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI). Dr. Calcagno’s other Federal experience includes implementing the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Program Integrity Coordination’s first Enterprise Risk Management program, one of the Secretary’s Strategic Priorities.
