Carla Lewis has 32 years of Federal service, including 11 years at the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) where she serves as the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) for the Office of Audit Services (OAS). Carla provides executive leadership to OIG’s mission of protecting the integrity of HHS programs as well as the health and welfare of the people they serve. Carla manages OIG’s portfolio of audits of HHS public health and human services programs, including grants and contracts, encompassing billions of dollars and serving some of the most vulnerable populations. In her role as AIG, Carla oversees 11 HHS operating divisions covering about $170 billion in grant dollars and $31 billion in contract dollars awarded annually. In addition, Carla oversees the annual financial statement audits of HHS and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Single Audit oversight function for more than 3,000 HHS award recipients that are required to undergo an annual Single Audit.
