Crystal G. Smith was born and raised in Hampton, Virginia, and is a proud Alumni of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in English and Literary Arts. She has been a dedicated member of the Federal Workforce for over 21 years, initiating her career with the Department of the Air Force. During her college tenure, she was afforded the opportunity to perform an internship with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Human Resource (HR) Intern. That internship later presented a full-time opportunity with the Agency, that blossomed into a remarkable career as a Human Resource Professional. During her tenure, Ms. Smith has served in many roles in the HR arena. She was formerly a Branch Chief at the Agencies Headquarters in the Program Review Division and provided supervision and oversight for compliance audits of Federal Prisons nationwide. Currently, serving as the Chief of the National Recruitment Office, she is tasked with the coordination of recruitment efforts for over 120 Federal prisons across the country. She is the recipient of numerous awards throughout her career tenure and has provided training to staff and executives at all levels. She is a trained diversity instructor and has extensive experience working with EEO complaints, labor relations, mediation and conflict resolution. Ms. Smith is a staff mentor and works with multiple protégés providing career guidance.
