Chief Data Officer, DoD - Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering

Since January 2023, Mr. Cyrus Jabbari has served as the inaugural Chief Data Officer of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). In this role, he leads efforts for the Department of Defense’s Research and Engineering headquarters, defense agencies, and field activities to leverage data analytics and modeling to generate insights-driven, outcome-oriented policy formulation, program evaluation, and decision-making.

Mr. Jabbari develops, manages, and oversees the implementation of OUSD(R&E)’s data policies and ensures compliance with data-related priorities across the entirety of the Department. He also led the establishment of and now serves as the first Chair of the DoD’s Transition Tracking Action Group (TTAG).

Prior to his appointment to the CDO position, Mr. Jabbari supported OUSD(R&E) on data analytics and digital transformation initiatives. Before his time in OUSD(R&E), he worked on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons matters and international security issues, including roles at the National Nuclear Security Administration, Congressional Research Service, United Nations, and other federal agencies and think tanks.

Mr. Jabbari holds a Master of Arts degree in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies with Farsi (Persian) language study from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California.
