Denise Mitchner

As the ADAS for Office of Financial Audit (OFA), Ms. Mitchner is responsible for leading Department level audit readiness and audit remediation efforts while managing the Department’s Annual Financial Statement audit. Ms. Mitchner also leads the Financial Management Training Initiative (FMTI), providing financial management and audit training to the VA financial community. Prior to being appointed the ADAS of OFA, she served as the Deputy Director of OFA where she oversaw the agency wide coordination of the annual financial statement audit, implemented department-level corrective action plans, and led various business process improvement efforts. Ms. Mitchner led the Department in achieving the last nine clean audit opinions for the VA’s annual financial statement audit. A public servant with the VA for 27 years, Ms. Mitchner worked in various offices within the Department of Veterans Affairs utilizing her knowledge and expertise to improve financial operations and aid in resolving multiple financial management issues. During her extensive federal career, Ms. Mitchner has implemented multiple initiatives such as, USAspending.gov and Campaign to Cut Waste. Ms. Mitchner received her BBA in Accounting from the University of the District of Columbia and is also a member of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA).
