Deputy CFO & Director of Finance, U.S. Census Bureau

Mr. Boards serves as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Director of Finance at the U.S. Census Bureau. As Deputy CFO and Director of Finance, he is responsible for directing financial management and accounting activities throughout the Census Bureau, preparing the Bureaus annual consolidated financial statements, monitoring the internal control system, and managing travel policy. His responsibilities include promulgating financial management policy throughout the Bureau and ensuring the Bureau's compliance with financial management laws and regulations. Prior to joining the Census Bureau, Ms. Boards served as the Director of the Office of Budget at the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). As the Budget Officer for BIS, he served as the top financial management authority and advisor to the CFO and Director of Administration (DOA) and managed BIS's budget and financial resource activities. Before joining BIS, Mr. Boards served as a senior analyst in the Office of the Secretary, Office of Financial Management. He oversaw the execution and formulation activities that ensured financial efforts aligned to the Chief Information Officer's organizational strategy. Before joining the Department of Commerce, Mr. Boards served as the Installation Financial Manager for Joint Bases Anacostia-Bolling, where he led financial planning and management initiatives. Mr. Boards has over 19 years of experience in federal financial management, including working as a financial manager during his service in the United States Air Force. Mr. Boards is a Kentucky native and currently lives just outside the District in Maryland. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southwestern College, a master's degree in Business Administration, and a master's in Public Administration from Strayer University.
