Geoffrey Nieboer

Chief Data Officer, FDIC

Mr. Nieboer joined the FDIC from the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB), where he served as Chief Data Officer for five years. In that capacity, he oversaw all aspects of data management and enterprise metrics for the agency and it’s $800B portfolio. He led the transition of all participant records and documents to the new recordkeeper, using innovative data privacy techniques to accelerate the transition. Prior to his civilian career, he served a full career in the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Colonel. Serving as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer, he led a diverse array of functions around the world, commanding special operations aviation units in the Pacific, airlift and remotely piloted vehicles in the Middle East, and in the Pentagon overseeing the Air Force’s $15B annual logistics program. He was selected for a prestigious RAND fellowship and stationed 12 different locations during his tenure. Mr. Nieboer has been previously recognized as one of the top CDO’s in the Federal Government. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Military History from the United States Air Force Academy, a Master’s degree in Aviation Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a Graduate Certificate in Data Mining and Applications from Stanford University. He is married to Lisa Lawn-Nieboer and has a son Theodore, and a Samoyed Mishka.
