Jed Ela is Plus One (deputy) to the Chief Sustainability Officer, U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). Since 2011, Jed has led GSA’s efforts to reduce carbon pollution and energy costs in federal supply chains by encouraging and tracking contractor sustainability practices. Jed also leads GSA’s Senior Sustainability Advisory Group, which oversees GSA’s internal efforts to track, reduce, and report carbon, energy, water, and waste and encourage renewable energy procurement, clean vehicles, responsible IT, and sustainable acquisition. Jed studied environmental law at UCLA and federal procurement law at The George Washington University and came to GSA via the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the California Air Resources Board. Before transitioning to law and sustainability management, Jed studied contemporary art at Wesleyan University and MIT, and worked as a freelance designer and independent visual artist.
