Jeffrey Hales

Jeffrey Hales has been serving as an inaugural member of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) since July 2022. Prior to joining the ISSB, he served as an inaugural member of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), which he chaired from 2018 to 2022. In his role as Chair, he oversaw the agenda setting and due process associated with the SASB standards development and maintenance. Before serving on the SASB Standards Board, he chaired the Standards Council for the SASB, which was formed in 2012. Jeffrey Hales is also on faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, where he teaches sustainability accounting. His research interests center on standard setting and regulation and has appeared in The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, and the Journal of Financial Economics, among other journals. During 2009-10, he was a Research Fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in Norwalk, CT. In addition, he served as a member of the FASB’s Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council from 2016-2019. In the United Kingdom, he served on the Financial Reporting Council’s Future of Corporate Reporting Advisory Group from 2018-2020 and as a member of the Climate Disclosure Standards Board from 2018-2022.
