Jessica Nelson has over 10 years of experience as a Criminal Investigator for the Federal government. SA Nelson has worked at the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), AmeriCorps OIG, and now at VA OIG. At AFOSI, SA Nelson conducted numerous investigations including homicides, narcotics, sexual assaults, and child abuse. At AmeriCorps OIG, SA Nelson conducted fraud investigations, which included embezzlement, timesheet fraud, false claims, false statements, falsified criminal history checks, and misuse of grant funds. At VA OIG, SA Nelson conducts various criminal and fraud investigations, to include benefit fraud, false claims, false statements, homicides, theft of controlled substances, sexual assaults, fiduciary fraud, and threats to VA employees and property. Throughout her career, SA Nelson has proactively sought opportunities to provide Fraud Awareness Briefings to government employees and contract/grant recipients to focus on red flags, internal controls, and fraud prevention.
