John Baier is the Acting Chief Deputy State Auditor with the California State Auditor’s Office. During his 36 years with the office, John has led a variety of performance, high risk, and financial audits. His performance audits include reviews of California’s energy crisis, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge replacement, University of California admissions practices, and IT development. In addition, John managed the office’s assessment of the large influx of federal COVID-19 funding to California as a statewide high-risk issue and oversaw six high-risk audits on this funding. John is a CPA and graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance.
