John Shakarji

John Shakarji is a Director with BDO Public Sector, LLC. He has over 16 years of experience in leading and executing complex efforts in risk management, audit, compliance, and process improvement. Throughout his career, Mr. Shakarji has supported both public sector entities and private organizations. In recent roles, he has provided thought leadership and strategic direction to federal agency clients in support of effective enterprise risk management. Mr. Shakarji has overseen engagement teams to identify, evaluate, and monitor risks; plan and execute internal control assessments; and support complex remediation and business process improvement efforts, amongst other activities. Prior to BDO, Mr. Shakarji worked in the financial services sector in senior operational, internal audit, and management consulting roles. While at Bank of America, he served as an Assistant Vice President, where he oversaw risk mitigation efforts to support the post financial-crisis recovery. At Fannie Mae, Mr. Shakarji held a senior internal audit role, where he assessed the effectiveness of enterprise risk management and recommended improvements pertaining to business lines, compliance functions, and other areas. Additionally, he performed management consulting for J.P. Morgan Chase to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes. As an attorney, Mr. Shakarji led the due diligence of securities offerings.
