Mr. Jonathan D. Moak was appointed the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller) and became the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller) on October 28, 2019. Prior to this appointment Mr. Moak served as a defense consultant in the Government and Public Sector practice of Deloitte Consulting LLP.
Mr. Moak was born and raised in Mississippi and has resided in Virginia since 2012. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a Master of Business Administration at Norwich University, and a Master of Science in Business Analytics from the University of Virginia.
He has significant military, federal civil service, and consulting experience leading business transformation programs that drive enterprise impact through the finance function by focusing on the intersection of mission, business operations, data, and technology. Mr. Moak has served on active duty at the National Guard Bureau, as a Department of the Army Civilian in the Business Administration Directorate of the US Army Information Technology Agency, and in the private sector. Additionally, Mr. Moak has served in the Army National Guard since 2005 and is a Distinguished Military Graduate. He is an Infantry Officer currently serving in the District of Columbia Army National Guard with multiple activations in support of state and federal active duty, and most recently in 2015 with a mobilization and deployment to the Middle East in support of Operational Enduring Freedom – Spartan Shield.
Through these positions and his education Mr. Moak has developed an expertise and understanding of the DoD PPBE process, comptrollership, budget formulation, federal financial management systems, audit readiness and remediation, internal controls, data analytics, performance management, and business transformation.
