Joseph Pika is the Director of the Division of Payment Integrity Improvement within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Financial Resources (ASFR). Joe coordinates HHS’ implementation of the Payment Integrity Information Act, the Do Not Pay initiative, and other efforts to prevent, reduce, and recapture improper payments. Joe also coordinates ASFR’s GAO and OIG audits and related activities. Prior to joining HHS, Joe worked in the Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Federal Financial Management, where he was responsible for the government-wide implementation of improper payment efforts. Earlier in his career, he also worked as a management and program analyst at the U.S. Department of Education and as a congressional staffer in the U.S. Senate. Joe holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and a Bachelor’s Degree in Government. In 2015, Joe received the Association of Government Accountant’s Emerging Leader Award for his work on improper payment efforts at OMB and at HHS.
