Karen Tinsley

Mrs. Karen Tinsley is the Deputy Director Accounting, Enterprise Accounting and Audit Services at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). She is responsible for instituting best business practices across mission areas and managing the implementation and standardization of common business process improvements across all DFAS sites. Influence improvement in the timeliness, accuracy and enhancement of functional service standards to accounting processes, departmental reporting and audit sustainment. Prior to her current role, Mrs. Tinsley has held a number of key management roles at DFAS where she has gained extensive accounting and Program Management experience. As Director, Enterprise Financial Information Services, she lead a team of Program Mangers implementing regulatory changes, enterprise initiatives, and process improvements for the Defense Cash Accountability System, Defense Departmental Reporting System, and the Defense Corporate Database. She served as the Director, Indianapolis Civilian Payroll Office, responsible for leading an organization of 300+ employees paying approximately 1 million DoD and non-DoD customers on a bi-weekly basis. As the Director, Financial Management, she was responsible for providing a comprehensive financial management program for the Agency. She gained the love for organizational and process change, system development and automation through multiple roles, but primarily in her leadership position as the DFAS Program Manager for the Defense Agencies Initiative (DAI) where she was responsible for the implementation and data conversion activities for seven of the DoD Defense Agencies to the ERP.
