Ms. Katherine Siggerud

Chief Operating Officer, GAO

Current position: Chief Operating Officer, U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)
Primary responsibilities 1) Serves as Deputy to the Comptroller General of the United States (the head of GAO). 2) Oversees hundreds of GAO reports and testimony statements issued to Congress each year. 3) Responsible for day-to-day management to ensure that GAO effectively supports Congress in meeting its constitutional responsibilities.

Previous positions at GAO include serving as Managing Director for Congressional Relations where she oversaw the receipt of the hundreds of requests and statutory requirements from the Congress for reports every year, and supported the Executive Committee’s decisions about accepting and assigning them. She worked directly with Congressional Committees and Members as the liaison between GAO and the Congress.

She also served as Managing Director of the Physical Infrastructure Team, where she oversaw GAO’s engagements on federal transportation policy and programs, federal telecommunications policy and programs, the United States Postal Service, and federal management of government real property. She played a key role in managing GAO’s review of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act and the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

Kate has over 33 years with GAO. She began her GAO career in the Chicago Field Office before joining the headquarters staff in Washington, DC in the Resources, Community and Economic Development Division. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College and a Master of Arts degree from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.

With regard to awards, among others she received a Public Leadership Award from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs in 2015 and the Comptroller General’s award in 2012 and 2020. She is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
