Assistant Director of Administration, State of Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury
Katie Armstrong, CPA, CGFM, CFE, is the Assistant Director of Administration for the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury’s Division of Local Government Audit. In this role, she oversees the division’s administrative functions, including budgeting, human resources, audit fees, strategic planning, and facilities management. Additionally, she manages Tennessee’s two certified finance officer programs and coordinates educational opportunities for these certifications.
Katie’s career with the Comptroller’s Office began in 2003 as a field auditor of county governments in Middle Tennessee. After 18 years in the field, she transitioned to a management role in the Nashville Office before being named Assistant Director of Administration in 2022.
Katie holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Austin Peay State University and is a graduate of LEAD Tennessee and the Tennessee Government Management Institute. In 2024, she was awarded a certificate of completion for the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Additionally, Katie is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
Beyond her work with the Division of Local Government Audit, Katie has served as the Comptroller’s representative on the Council on Children’s Mental Health and the Tennessee Housing Development Agency Board of Directors. She is also an active member of AGA (formerly the Association of Government Accountants), having held various leadership roles within the Nashville Chapter, including Finance Chair, Programs Chair, Treasurer, and President. Currently, she serves on AGA’s national Audit Committee.
Katie resides in Nashville with her husband, Shaun, and their two children. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs, and attending Dave Matthews Band concerts.
