Kenneth "Ken" Smith, PhD, is the Founder and President of a Public Benefit Company, The Accountability Group-LLC (TAG-LLC). Prior to creating TAG-LLC, Smith served in higher education for over 30 years while also working for a few years full-time at CPA firms. He was elected to the Northshore School Board, the 10th largest district in the state of Washington, just north and east of the city of Seattle and served until 2017. His teaching and research focused on measuring the financial and non-financial performance of government and nonprofit organizations. He has long been interested in how organizations use information and communicate amongst one another. Ken was President and Co-founder of the Institute for Better Governance, past President of the Association of Government Accountants-Seattle Chapter and co-founder and Chair of the Oregon Public Performance Improvement Association. He has written numerous academic and general public papers, and book chapters including the governmental chapters of the Advanced Accounting (11th, 12th and 13th Editions – by Pearson) textbook. His former work experience includes: owning his own business; serving as the interim Executive Director for the international nonprofit Wheels for Humanity; auditing and litigation support with CPA firms; and faculty appointments at the University of Washington, Willamette University, Pepperdine University, and Texas A&M University.
