Lanier McRee is an Assistant State Budget Officer (ASBO) with the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management (NCOSBM), where she leads a team of analysts partnering with state agencies on process improvement and performance management initiatives. She and her team are the driving force working to expand the use of evidence in state government decision-making and employ evidence-based budgeting to develop the Governor’s Recommended Budget. Lanier has over 15 years of experience in state budgeting and budget development spanning both the Legislative and Executive branches. Prior to her time at NCOSBM, Lanier spent nine years with the North Carolina General Assembly’s Fiscal Research Division as well as several years in management consulting. Lanier holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Davidson College, a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from the London School of Economics, and a Master of Public Policy from Duke University.
