Linda Chero is the Assistant Commissioner of Disbursing and Debt Management (DDM) and Chief Disbursing Officer for the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service. Ms. Chero is responsible for providing executive leadership for the disbursement of more than 1.2 billion Treasury- disbursed payments totaling $5.46 trillion annually, the accounting for those payments, and the resolution of payment claims. Additionally, Ms. Chero is responsible for the collection of delinquent debt owed to the government totaling over $4B, including $3.8 billion through the Treasury Offset Program (TOP) and $554 million through Cross Servicing program annually. Additionally, Ms. Chero oversees the development and implementation of governmentwide debt management policies. Ms. Chero's previous role as the Executive Director of the Bureau of the Fiscal Service's National Payment Integrity and Resolution Center (NPIRC), overseeing reconciliation and reporting for Treasury and non-Treasury payments. In FY24, NPIRC recovered over $36 billion through post-payment activities and became a leader in detecting payment anomalies. Ms. Chero also launched the Payment Integrity Center of Excellence, which prevented more than $7 billion in improper payments—an initiative now known as the Office of Fraud Prevention and Financial Integrity. Prior to joining the Treasury, Ms. Chero was the Regional Commissioner for the General Services Administration (GSA) Mid-Atlantic Region. Ms. Chero managed over $3.8 billion of the U.S. Government's business with civilian and military Federal agencies around the world. Linda was with GSA for 28 years and held several leadership positions throughout her tenure. Linda has a Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers University and a Master's Degree from Temple University both in business administration.
