Marc Cohen

CIO/Head of Information Technology, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory

Marc Cohen currently serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Head of Information Technology (IT) at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), a world-class fusion energy research laboratory located in Princeton, NJ. In this role, he is responsible for providing comprehensive vision, strategic leadership and operational management for IT including, scientific computing, cyber security, user services, networking and telecommunications, data center management, change management, backup and recovery services, disaster recovery preparedness, web development, and responsibilities as documented by the US Department of Energy. Marc also serves as a member of the Laboratory Leadership Council (LLC), Enterprise Systems Planning Group (ESPG), and is Chair of the Safety Champions Committee. In 2018/19, Marc served as the Acting Head of the Site Protection Division where he was responsible for overseeing the Laboratory’s Security, Fire Protection, Emergency Management and Occurrence Reporting programs. Before being appointed as CIO, Marc served as the User Support and Operations Supervisor. Marc is responsible for bringing many modern technologies to the lab including Google Workspace, CrashPlan PRO, and ServiceNow. Prior to joining PPPL, Cohen worked for New Jersey Cyber Coupons where he was the lead web programmer and graphic artist. Marc’s areas of interest and expertise include the human computer interaction, artificial intelligence, software engineering, and data structures and algorithms. Marc holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Drexel University.
