Maureen Falvella

Acting NIH Chief Information Security Officer, National Institutes of Health

Maureen has 14 years of experience developing strategies, directing operations, and overseeing budgets to protect information assets at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She brings extensive business experience, advanced technical expertise, and a strong understanding of NIH's scientific mission. Starting in Spring 2023, Maureen served as NIH Deputy Chief Information Security Officer for NIH and recently accepted the Acting NIH Chief Information Security Officer position. Previously, Maureen served as Chief Information Security Officer at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). In this role, Maureen oversaw the NHLBI Security Program, which focuses on securing multi-faceted biomedical research in a blended environment of on-premise, cloud, and remote systems. She strategically led the development of NHLBI Cybersecurity program goals by developing and overseeing a 5-year roadmap to re-align NHLBI to a zero-trust model. Maureen is bringing this experience into her new role with NIH and will be leading the Agency in the development and implementation of its three-year Cybersecurity plan.
