Melissa Sizemore CGFM, CPA

Melissa Sizemore joined Cotton & Company in 2007 and was elected a partner with the firm in January 2019. Since joining the firm, Melissa has specialized in providing federal financial management and financial consulting services. Melissa’s expertise includes the preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with principles, standards, and guidance promulgated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB), the Department of Treasury, and the Government Accountability Office (GAO). These standards include the Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS), the US Standard General Ledger (USSGL), Treasury Closing Package, Intragovernmental reporting, and the Governmentwide Treasury Account Symbol Adjusted Trial Balance System (GTAS). Melissa’s extensive experience in providing a wide range of financial consulting and accounting support services includes advising and assisting clients with complex accounting and financial reporting issues, audit remediation efforts, financial management processes, accounting standard implementation, and audit concerns. Melissa received a B.S. in Accounting from George Mason University. She is an active member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) and the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), for which she participates in the DC Chapter’s Education Committee. Melissa is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Government Financial Manger (CGFM). Melissa resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and daughter. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and traveling.
