Michael Gomes

Michael V. Gomes is a member of the federal government’s senior executive service with over thirty years of progressively expanding scope and responsibility leading staffs and organizations through innovative change, management, and execution. He joined IRS currently serves at the Associate CFO for Revenue Financial Accounting within IRS’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer where he has responsibility for accounting management for taxpayer collections of more than $4 trillion. Michael previously served as the Deputy Associate CFO for Administrative Financial Management and later Custodial Management. He also served as acting Deputy Chief Procurement Officer. Prior to joining IRS, Michael served as Program Director for Financial Integration with the Office of Management and Budget with the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration. Before joining the federal government, Michael held several corporate and military positions, leading multifunctional teams, planning and managing financial operations of multibillion-dollar organizations and serving on a range of strategic planning, business, policy, and operational initiatives. His experience includes leading licensed professionals to support accounting and finance operations including; accounts payable and receivables, inventory and cost analysis, budgeting, sales and distribution, capital assets investment portfolio, treasury and funding risk management, foreign exchange, cash flow forecasting and execution, policy and audit compliance, contract management controls, Enterprise Resource Program system development and administration, statutory, compliance and financial management reporting and operational support initiatives. Michael served as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Navy (reserve) for 26 years and retired in 2024 with the rank of Captain. He held several tours, including as Commanding and Executive Officer and is a qualified Naval Expeditionary Supply Corps Officer.
