Michael O’Rourke, Assistant Inspector General for Strategy, Data & Innovation
Michael O’Rourke joined the Office of Inspector General (OIG) within the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) in May of 2023 as the Assistant Inspector General for Strategy, Data and Innovation. He works across OIG to enable meaningful investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections through the use of data, analytics, and innovative practices.
Mr. O’Rourke previously served for 8 years as the Director of Planning Measurement and Delivery in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Chief Data Officer, OIG. In this work he served as a change agent in a government start-up focused on leveraging data to enable clear and confident decision making. Prior to that, Michael was the Deputy Budget Officer for HHS OIG and was a Presidential Management Fellow. Before joining the federal government, he was an Instructor with the Voyageur and Hurricane Island Outward Bound Schools.
Mr. O’Rourke received his B.S. from Lesley College in Environmental Studies. He received his MSW from the University of Maryland, School of Social Work.
