Inspector General, DoD IG

Robert P. Storch is the Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Defense (DoD). He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and assumed his responsibilities at the DoD Office of Inspector General (OIG) in 2022. IG Storch leads the DoD OIG in conducting robust independent oversight of DoD programs and personnel. He is also the Lead IG for Operations Enduring Sentinel and Inherent Resolve. In December 2023, Congress designated him as the Special IG for Operation Atlantic Resolve, which includes U.S. Government assistance to Ukraine. Before coming to the DoD OIG, Mr. Storch served nearly five years as the first presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed IG for the National Security Agency/Central Security Service, where he worked to enhance the impact and transparency of its work. He also spent several years at the Department of Justice (DOJ) OIG as the Deputy IG and the DOJ OIG’s first Whistleblower Ombudsperson. Active in the IG Community, Mr. Storch currently serves as the Chair of the Technology Committee of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) and as a member of the CIGIE Executive Council. He is also a member of the Government-wide Pandemic Response Accountability Committee that was statutorily established to provide oversight of pandemic-related spending. As the DoD IG, he also chairs the Defense Council on Integrity and Efficiency. Following a Federal judicial clerkship and time at a D.C. law firm, Mr. Storch served more than two decades as a Federal prosecutor at two U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Public Integrity Section of the DOJ’s Criminal Division. He also served as a DOJ advisor in Ukraine and later provided technical assistance for Ukraine's anti-corruption legislation. Mr. Storch received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard University and his law degree from Columbia Law School. He is married to a fellow attorney and has two daughters.
