Ryan Wharton

Director: GF and AWCF Audit Readiness, United States Army Security Agency

Ryan Wharton is the acting Audit Readiness Director within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller). In this role, Mr. Wharton is responsible to overseeing and implementing Army’s plan to achieve an audit opinion. Prior to this role, Mr. Wharton lead the teams working to improve the Army’s financial and operational accountability over General Equipment, Real Property, Operating Materials and Supplies, and Internal Use Software. Mr. Wharton also leads the Army’s Munitions SOC 1 exam—which helps to ensure that the Army, as a service provider, is accountable for other Services-owned munitions in Army’s custody. Prior to joining the Army team in 2018, Mr. Wharton spent five years working as a contractor supporting the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) in both the Human Capital and Resource Management (HCRM) office and the Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) office. While working for HCRM, Mr. Wharton developed DoD FM Certification courses with the goal of improving the overall proficiency of the DoD FM workforce. While at the FIAR office, he wrote polices to improve DoD’s financial accounting practices, developed metrics to track audit progress, and supported DoD reporting requirements to external oversight bodies to include the Office of Management and Budget and Congress. Mr. Wharton has both a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from West Virginia University.
