Mr. Stephen Sanford

Stephen Sanford is the Managing Director in GAO’s Strategic Planning and External Liaison team. He helps GAO strategically plan for the future, lead external relations with domestic and international accountability partners, and drive agency-wide innovation and transformation. He also oversees the activities of the GAO Center for Audit Excellence and is Director of GAO's Center for Strategic Foresight. As a leader in public sector foresight and design thinking, Stephen frequently speaks to national audit offices and other public sector, international, and independent organizations about the use of foresight and strategic planning to improve organizational performance, and has led workshops on artificial intelligence, enterprise planning, and leadership.
