William Gable

Since July 2024, Mr. William R. Gable has served as the Chief of Staff to the Army Auditor General. In this role, Bill is responsible for assisting the Army Auditor General in leading the U.S. Army Audit Agency, the Department of the Army’s internal audit organization, and implementing key audit, human capital, and analytics initiatives. Bill’s prior positions include Acting Deputy Auditor General for Financial Management, Digital Information, and Intelligence Audits; Program Director for Forensic Audits and Data Analytics; Program Director for Supply Audits; Deputy Auditor General for Installations, Energy, and Environmental Audits; Program Director for European Theater Audits; and Deputy Director for Resource Management. Bill is a leader in using analytics to support audits. In 2011, he created the Army Audit Agency’s first ever forensic audit capability, designed to do proactive, fraud-focused audits using forensic audit techniques and analytics. Working with Army Criminal Investigation Division, the team has supported hundreds of criminal convictions, hundreds of administration actions, and termination of programs and government employees and contracts. In 2023, Bill and his team implemented a cloud-analytics platform to support Agency audit teams auditing all Army functional areas and do collaborative enterprise data mining. His teams have deployed continuous auditing analytics leveraging AI and machine learning. His teams have also deployed analytics using Generative AI. Bill graduated from King’s College with a Bachelor Science in Accounting and the U.S. Army War College with Masters of Strategic Studies. He is a certified public accountant (inactive) and member of several professional associations. Bill is the proud Dad of Aubrey (27), Harper (12), William (10), and Nicholas (6).
